Bib batteries collaborated with Dott to give a second-life to 1,200 e-scooter batteries.
Bib batteries, a French startup specializing in battery management, and Dott, the Franco-Dutch micro-mobility operator, joined forces with Manufacturing Partners, a Polish company pioneering in battery upcycling, to repurpose 1,200 e-scooter batteries, and extend their useful lifespan. The partnership helps avoid 67 T of CO2 emissions by removing the need to produce new batteries.
A total of 1,200 batteries used by Dott had reached the end of their lifespan for e-scooter use. Dott is focused on finding second-life uses for batteries, to avoid sending them for recycling. Bib Batteries has made it its mission to extend the lifespan of batteries to reduce their environmental impact by collaborating with all stakeholders in the circular economy, ensuring that no battery with remaining potential is needlessly destroyed.
Thanks to this collaboration with Manufacturing Partners, the 1,200 Dott batteries are finding a second use, now powering an electric boat: the company has built a technology demonstrator to show the potential of the battery upcycling concept. The base is a mahogany boat built in Sweden in 1931, designed by the famous boat designer Garl Gustaf Peterson. The boat has been renovated and retrofitted with a super-efficient direct-drive axial flux 10 kW electric motor. Combined with a 36kWh 48V modular battery (built from upcycled cells), it provides a comfortable 5 knots cruising speed and an impressive range of 100 nautical miles.

This innovative application is one of many that prolong the life of lithium batteries. This particular operation prevented the emission of 67 T of CO2. Bib Batteries and Manufacturing Partners share a common ambition: to make batteries more sustainable and reduce their environmental footprint. To quote Pierre-Amans Lapeyre, Bib’s co-founder and CEO: "Bib’s ambition has always been to maximize batteries lifespan, by reusing all the ones that can be reused, in order to reduce the global impact of the value chain".
Wlodzimierz Babs, Manufacturing Partners’ CEO, said in a recent interview: "Manufacturing Partners is here to promote the responsible use of the planet's resources so that things serve us for as long as possible, are repaired instead of thoughtlessly discarded before reaching the end of their lives."
By collaborating with Bib, Dott once again demonstrates its commitment to environmentally friendly and inclusive forms of sustainable mobility.
Laurent Kennel, Chief Development Officer, Dott, said: "We are committed to relentlessly repairing our vehicles, reusing spare parts and recycling where necessary. Batteries have a significant impact on our overall emissions and we work with a number of partners to find second life uses when they can no longer be used for our e-scooters. By partnering with Bib Batteries, we have been able to help power a new form of green transport for many more years to come."

About us
Bib batteries is an AI-powered end-to-end solution to extend the life cycle of batteries. When a special event happens (end-of-life, low autonomy, end-of-contract or failure), Bib’s algorithm determines the optimal residual value of a battery on the actual market. We offer a complete solution to the owner of the battery, including logistics, invoicing and paperwork. Bib relies on a global network of certified partners across Europe to provide the most ecological and cost-effective solution for each battery. We coordinate the supply and ensure repair, second-life and recycling companies have an adequate battery source for their operations for the 100m of vehicle batteries reaching end-of-life in the coming decade.
Dott is a European micromobility operator founded by Henri Moissinac and Maxim Romain, with the mission to free our cities with clean rides for everyone. Dott currently operates over 40,000 e-scooters and 10,000 e-bikes in top cities in Belgium, France, Israel, Italy, Poland, Spain, and the UK. Dott has a staff of over 600, with its main teams located in Amsterdam, London and Paris.
Manufacturing Partners is a Polish company innovating the world of contract manufacturing by providing a fully scalable solution to get products to the market. It bridges the gaps between prototype and scaling to mass production and provides expertise to help clients get the most advantageous solution combining the best of in-house and outsourcing.
